- Vision #12
- Civil War 2 #6 (of 7)
- The Skeptics #1
The final issue of Vision is out this week. Since it began last November, it has consistently been the best book out each month (yes, I will fight you on this). I’m sad that it’s ending, but I’m also glad that it will always be one perfectly executed story. It will never get bloated or fizzle out; it wont get a new creative team that misses the boat. It was conceived of as a 12-issue story arc, and it was expertly plotted and paced as such. I really appreciate Tom King negotiating with DC to let him finish it, and can’t wait to reread it all as a completed work. Now where’s my hardcover deluxe omnibus edition Marvel?!
To fill the hole in my pull left by Vision ending, I’m trying out The Skeptics, a new series by Black Mask. It’s being billed as “a pre-punk period piece, a sort of honest, unfuzzy, non-nostalgic look at the Cold War in DC.” The basic premise is that the Russians have a pair of people with super powers, so the US goes looking for their own. In response, an illusionist trains two teens to trick everyone (Americans and Russians alike) into believing that they are dangerous psychics.
The Skeptics is being written by Tini Howard, the winner of the Top Cow Talent Hunt in 2014. On art and colors is Devaki Neogi, who was academically trained as a Fashion Designer and worked in the apparel industry before moving to illustration and comics (a career path that has done wonders for comic art in the past). Kudos to Black Mask for having a diverse, all-female creative team!
